In this section of the Blackboard @ F&M website we will post known issues
with Blackboard and the current level of resolution and workarounds. If you
are having difficulty performing a task in Blackboard, check the Known Issues
list. If the issue does not appear on the list, please contact the Blackboard
Administrator at Franklin and Marshall College.
Assessments
Issue
If a student does not answer a Fill in the Blank question on an Assessment,
the Instructor receives an error message when they view the Assessment.
Resolution/Workaround
None at this time.
Issue
When questions are uploaded to a Pool,
they are automatically assigned a default point value.
Resolution/Workaround
Once the Pool questions are added to a Test, the instructor can modify the test items to change the point value.
Issue
When an audio or video media file is added to a question in an Assessment it does not display correctly if the instructor selects Display Media File Within Page option.
Resolution/Workaround
All media types work if the Create a Link to this File option is selected.
Collaboration Tool
Issue
When multiple documents are created on the Whiteboard, and one is deleted, the currently displayed document becomes blank. The correct document is deleted.
Resolution/Workaround
To view the displayed document (that has become blank), re-select it and click Display.
Issue
A 500 error message appears sporadically when trying to join a Collaboration Session.
Resolution/Workaround
Users can join the session by closing the window and attempting to re-join.
Issue
When Macintosh users click Join to open a Virtual Classroom session, the Virtual Classroom window opens, but the Collaboration Tool does not load.
Resolution/Workaround
Close the Virtual Classroom window and select the link for the Macintosh-compatible Lightweight Chat.
Content
Issue
If a folder with sub-folders is removed, Assessments in any of the folders will no longer be able to be deployed by the instructor.
Resolution/Workaround
Remove all links to Assessments from the folders before the folders are removed. The instructor will then be able to deploy the Assessments.
Issue
When a Word document is saved as an attachment to an item in a Content Area, extended ascii characters in the file name may be changed to underscores.
Resolution/Workaround
None at this time.
Course Control Panel
Issue
If an apostrophe (‘) is used in a name of a Course Item, and Browse is selected on the Add Course Link page, a Javascript error message appears.
Resolution/Workaround
No resolution at this time. Error message can be ignored and user can proceed.
Course Tools
Issue
Disabling Announcements from the Manage Tools page removes the option on the Course menu, but does not remove Announcements from the course homepage.
Resolution/Workaround
Access the Manage Course Menu feature and make the Announcements area unavailable.
Issue
When an instructor disables Tools through the Course Control Panel, they still appear on the Course Map. A Permission Denied message appears when a user attempts to access these Tools through the Course Map.
Resolution/Workaround
None at this time.
Email
Issue
When an instructor sends an email through Communications on the Course Menu, and selects Send Copy to Self, they receive multiple copies of the email.
Resolution/Workaround
None at this time.
Digital Drop Box
Issue
When the instructor attempts to send a file to a Student using the Digital Drop Box, disabled students appear in the list of students on the Send File page.
Resolution/Workaround
Access the Manage Course Menu feature and make the Announcements area unavailable.
Gradebook
Issue
Instructors cannot identify which columns on the Spreadsheet View page are visible to students.
Resolution/Workaround
None at this time.
Issue
Items that have a Display Option of Letter or Text are displayed correctly for instructors, but students view a 0.
Resolution/Workaround
None at this time.
Issue
Gradebook items display up to six decimal places.
Resolution/Workaround
Set the Gradebook Item to display the grade as Score on the Item Information page.
Issue
The system will not prevent or warn an instructor who creates Grade Display options that are outside the limit of zero and 100%.
Resolution/Workaround
None at this time.
Issue
Weighted totals are not restored correctly and the category by which grades are weighted is changed when a course is restored.
Resolution/Workaround
None at this time.
Math and Science Notation
Issue
WebEQ does not correctly display strings that use < and > characters. If an equation using these characters is entered, items after the character are missing. This issue will also occur with other special characters, such as &.
Resolution/Workaround
Do not use the < sign in the Equation Editor. Instead, split the equation into two equations and place the < between them in the text box using the keyboard.
