What are they?
- Pre-packaged ready to use course materials
-Contain a variety of materials (slides, documents, multimedia files, links
to related websites, test/quiz banks)
- Material often correlates to a textbook
- Some cartridges are stand-alone
- Customizable once downloaded to course site
Pricing
In many cases, the method used follows a standard college textbook sales model:
as an instructor, you can download a copy of the cartridge into your course
for free; the publisher's content is protected within your course such that
students will need their own access key in order to use those portions of your
course.
Student Access
Students typically purchase an access key in the bookstore, either bundled with
or available separately from the textbook or other materials for the course.
Students are prompted to enter a Student Access Code or Student Access Key the
first time they encounter publisher content within a course. This is a one-time
entry. After the key is entered, students will not need the key again and will
be able to access the publisher content &endash; from any PC/Mac &endash;
in the same way they access other content areas within a course. Generally,
each key may be used only once, so each student must have his or her own Student
Access Code.
Copyright Regulations
All Blackboard Course Cartridges are cleared by the publisher for usage within
instructors' courses. The Blackboard system provides copyright protection for
the publishers' cartridge content by disallowing the copy, export, or archive
of cartridge-supplied content (in Blackboard 6). All instructor-provided content
is safely copied and/or restored into new course instances. Then, a new copy
of the cartridge can be downloaded into the new course. The cartridge WILL NOT
disturb content already in the course.
